About Me
I am a comedy writer and creator looking to build my experience by working in scripted development, particularly storylining or script editing. A proud working-class northerner, I am born and bred in Leigh - the only town in the country to be overshadowed by Wigan!
After starting to provide informal feedback on comedy writing courses (British Comedy Guide, NFTS) I have gone on to work on script reports and 'punch ups' for writers at various stages in their careers. In 2024, I would like to gain experience script reading for competitions and production companies. As a writer, my topical jokes have been aired on BBC Radio Scotland and Union JACK, while my sitcom script has been longlisted for the ShortCom Sitcom Writing Competition.
I am currently completing a MA in Drama Production for TV, Film and Digital Media at the University of Salford.
Script Services
While many script reports give overall feedback on areas such as structure, plot and character, I also offer practical editorial suggestions on how to improve specific parts of your script. My feedback lies somewhere between the offers of a script reader and a script editor, as I suggest specific changes to structure, dialogue and visuals to give you an actionable basis for your next rewrite.
For comedy writers, I am particularly skilled at increasing your gag count, which I do by exploiting opportunities for comedy that already exist within your writing. My feedback in this area includes adding and refining setups and punchlines, as well as highlighting ways that you can draw more comic mileage from existing characters, settings and situations. Rather than pointing out which gags are stronger or weaker and asking you to make the script funnier, I will help you with the actual business of adding in more 'funny'.
